  • Provide opportunities for students to develop enterprising behaviours, such as taking intellectual risks, testing ideas and using initiative, and apply these in contexts both within and beyond the school

Knowledge:

Teachers know and understand:
  • Strategies for engaging young people in discussion of matters related to personal development, post-school options and health, lifestyle and human relations

  • Strategies for promoting active citizenship

  • In what ways have you modelled/demonstrated positive behaviours?

At all times during my time at Helensvale High I was respectful towards students within my classrooms and around the school. I set the example for my student’s by supporting and encouraging each individual student within my classes. I enforced good behaviour such as respecting each other’s opinions but also allowing them to portray their own point of view. Finally I made sure that every day each student had a clean slate and punishments didn’t carry over from the day before. This gave every student an equal opportunity at learning within my classroom.

  • How have you contributed to the co-curricula program of the school through participation in planned activities?

I assisted the Year 8 basketball team in the interschool basketball competition. Whilst at the competition I acted as assistant coach and organised the team and made rotations throughout the match. I assisted the student’s perform roles such as score keeper and referee.  I attended after school hours Maths tutorials and provided support and advice for all students. I attended the Helensvale High Year 9 EXCITE Science camp at Tullebudgera. I assisted students with Physics experiments such as making their own water powered rockets and building their own boats. This was an enjoyable experience and allowed me to learn from and observe experience teachers within a fun environment. It also gave me a chance to get to know the students on a personal level.
